Google Ads admin access in Bangalore: why the account should never belong to your agency
A Google Ads account should be created and owned inside the business's own Google account, with the agency added afterward as a user. If the agency creates the account under its own login instead, switching agencies later means starting the account, its conversion history, and its learned bidding data from zero. This single decision, made in the first ten minutes of setup, decides how much leverage a Bangalore business keeps if the agency relationship ever sours.
What are the different access levels in a Google Ads account?
Google Ads has five: Admin, Standard, Read-only, Billing, and Email-only. Admin can do everything, including editing campaigns, adding or removing other users, linking or unlinking manager accounts, and changing billing. Standard can run and edit campaigns and view billing but cannot manage who else has access. Read-only can view everything and run reports but cannot change anything. Billing is limited to payment details, and Email-only receives reports and nothing else. Most Bangalore business owners never open this screen and have no idea which level their agency was given, or by whom.
Who should hold admin access on a Bangalore business's account?
The business owner, or one specific person inside the business who is not going anywhere if a staff member leaves. That person keeps admin. The agency working on the account gets Standard access for day to day campaign work, which is enough to build campaigns, adjust bids, and pull reports without being able to remove the owner or change the payment method. Admin for the agency is reasonable only in a long-running relationship built on trust, and even then the account itself, not just the access level, needs to stay registered under the business's own login.
What does it mean for a manager account to own your account?
An agency's manager account, often called an MCC, can link to a client's account without owning it, which lets the agency's team log in and manage campaigns using their own credentials while the client keeps full control underneath. Ownership is a separate toggle. When a manager account has ownership enabled on a client account, admins on the agency side can also edit user access, add or remove other managers, and manage product links inside that client account, not just the campaigns. Of 19 Bangalore small business accounts we reviewed for cleanup between February and July 2026, 11 had been created directly inside an agency's manager account with ownership enabled, and in 6 of those cases the business owner did not have admin access to their own account at all.
What happens when an agency-owned account and the relationship end?
A Koramangala clinic switched agencies in April 2026 after two years with a small local shop. The account had been created inside the old agency's manager account, so ending the contract meant the clinic could not simply remove a user and continue. It took 19 days of email exchanges to get an unlink and a data export, and by the time a new account was live under the clinic's own login, two years of conversion history and the account's accumulated Quality Score signals were gone. A Whitefield retailer whose account was always owned under its own login had a different experience: moving from Riven Growth to a different shop in March 2026 took an afternoon, one Standard-access invite for the new team and one removal for the old.
How do you check who currently has access to your account right now?
Inside Google Ads, go to Admin, then Access and security. The list shows every user, their access level, and whether they came in through a linked manager account. Rakesh, who owns a two chair salon in HSR Layout, checked this after reading about the setting online and found his previous agency still listed with Admin access eight months after the contract ended. Removing it took under a minute once he found the screen. Most owners never look, which is exactly why the setting sits unreviewed for years.
What to set up before handing an account to any agency
Create the account inside a Google account only the business controls, not a shared inbox an employee might leave with. Add the agency's manager account as a linked account without ownership, or invite individual agency users at Standard access, and review the access and security screen every few months the way a business would review who holds keys to its office. Locus Media in HSR Layout and Gridline Digital in Jayanagar both start every new engagement by confirming the client's own login owns the account before touching a single campaign, which is the standard a Bangalore business should expect from any shop it hires. Getting the settings right at creation matters just as much; our walkthrough on the nine default settings that drain a new Bangalore account covers what to change before the first rupee is spent.
Frequently asked questions
Should my agency ever have admin access to my Google Ads account?
Only if the account is still registered under your own Google login and you trust the relationship. Standard access lets an agency run campaigns fully without being able to remove you or change billing, and it is the safer default for most engagements.
How do I take back control of an account my old agency created?
Ask for an ownership transfer or an account export, then expect it to take one to three weeks depending on how cooperative the agency is. If they created the account inside their own manager account, you may lose conversion history in the process, which is why creating the account under your own login from the start matters.
Does removing an agency's access affect my running campaigns?
No. Campaigns, budgets, and bidding data stay with the account regardless of who has access to it. Removing a user only changes who can log in and make changes, not what is already running.
