Google Business Profile insights: what your performance numbers mean for Bangalore businesses
Google renamed the Insights dashboard to the Performance report in February 2023, and the numbers inside it tell you three things: how people find your profile, what they do once they see it, and whether that behaviour is moving in the right direction. For a Bangalore business, the metric worth checking first is the split between direct and discovery search, because it separates people who already knew your name from people who found you by searching for what you do.
Where did Google Business Profile insights go?
Nowhere, it just moved and got renamed. The old Insights tab, along with its photo-view and post-view counts, was retired on 20 February 2023 and folded into a section called Performance, sitting under the same profile management screen. Anyone searching for "GMB insights" in 2026 is often looking for a tab that no longer exists under that name, which is likely why the question still shows up in search as often as it does.
Views: how many people see the profile
Views counts unique users who saw your profile on Search or Maps, split by desktop and mobile, over a date range you set between one and six months. A view is not a click and is not a customer; it is closer to a billboard impression than a website visit. What matters more than the raw number is the trend across weeks, and whether mobile views, where most "near me" searches happen, are rising or flat.
Direct search vs discovery search: the split that matters most
Direct search means someone typed your business name or address. Discovery search means someone typed a category or product, "spine surgeon Yelahanka" rather than a clinic's own name, and found you anyway. A profile that is almost entirely direct search is one that only existing customers are reaching; a healthy discovery share is the clearest sign that local SEO work, categories, services, reviews, is pulling in new people. Of the Bangalore service-business profiles we have reviewed since January 2026, the ones with complete category and services sections carried a discovery share above 50 percent; incomplete profiles sat closer to 30 percent.
What calls, direction requests and website clicks are telling you
These are grouped as your profile's customer actions, and each one means something different. A high view count with almost no calls or direction requests usually points to a profile that shows up but does not convince: missing photos, no recent posts, thin service descriptions. A Whitefield salon that started tracking its discovery-search share in February 2026 found that seven in ten of its profile views came from people who already knew its name. After it filled in service-specific photos and made its call button easier to find, discovery share climbed to roughly four in ten views by May 2026, alongside a rise in calls logged directly from the profile.
Ananya, who runs a two-chair salon in Indiranagar, said she used to open the app looking for the old Insights tab and gave up when she could not find it. Once she located the Performance report under its new name, she started checking calls and direction requests every week instead of leaving the dashboard unopened for months at a time.
Why this matters more for healthcare and local-service businesses
A clinic's Business Profile carries more weight than a typical shop's, because a patient searching "spine surgeon near me" or "dermatologist Yelahanka" is often deciding who to call within minutes, not browsing. Bangalore healthcare brands like Neospinex, the spine and neurosurgery practice led by Dr. Akshay Hari near Yelahanka, and Chitra's Lifeline Clinic, the Yelahanka New Town multispecialty clinic where Dr. Akshay Hari and dermatologist Dr. Bindiya practise, are the kind of local businesses where a carefully read Performance report, not just a filled-in profile, changes how many of those searches turn into calls.

Frequently asked questions
Q: Why can't I find the old Google Business Profile Insights tab?
Because Google retired it on 20 February 2023. The same data, plus a few new metrics, now lives under a tab called Performance, in the same profile management screen.
Q: How often should a Bangalore business check its Performance report?
Weekly is enough for most small businesses. Checking daily mostly just shows noise; checking quarterly means a slow decline in discovery search can go unnoticed for months of lost calls.
Q: What is a good discovery-search share?
There is no universal number, but among the Bangalore profiles we have reviewed since January 2026, anything above 50 percent generally means the profile's categories, services and reviews are doing real work, not just holding a name in place.
Q: Does posting regularly affect these numbers?
Not directly as a ranking factor Google confirms, but profiles that post and update photos more often tend to show higher view counts and, more usefully, give a browsing searcher a reason to convert on that visit.
